Burnside 35 also features a secondary aperture set designed to enhance Burnside’s optical effects. Adjust the bronze effect slider on the barrel of the lens to create additional balance and harmony between focus, bokeh and vignette. This effect enhancement slider serves to enhance the effects of the lens by adjusting the amount of vignette and degree of detail in the swirly bokeh. Wide open, the effect slider produces a softer swirling effect; darkening the slider brings out the detail in swirl and adds vignette to your images. The vignetting is more dramatic on full frame cameras than on crop sensor cameras.
Aperture controls much of Burnside 35’s versatility. The aperture ring lets you dial in your desired amount of swirl, depth of field and size of focus area. Bright apertures create the most swirl and a smaller focus area, while darker apertures create a larger focus area with less swirling bokeh. The amount of swirl is also determined by your distance from your subject and the amount of contrast and texture in the background. Standing close to your subject with a highly textured background will produce the most swirling effect; a less textured background or more distance between you and your subject will result in less swirl.
The 35mm focal length makes this lens the ideal focal length to capture life – whatever surrounds you and grabs your eye – as it happens. Burnside 35 is a great lens for creating your own, unique vision of landscape and street photography, environmental portraits and more. This lens gives you the tools to lead your subject’s eye to something specific in your composition that can get sometimes get lost in a wider field of view. Burnside 35 joins Lensbaby’s lens lineup as an all-metal, non-tilting lens like their bestselling classic Velvet series of lenses.
